After much discussion and deliberation, we have decided to choose the song 'A Girl Like You'.
As I was researching Two Door Cinema Club, I found one of my favourite artists (Miles Kane) with a cover of an old song. We instantly had lots of ideas and plans for the song which we wanted to put into the music video, more so than the ideas we had for our Two Door Cinema club choices. After a short discussion with our teacher, we decided to change the song because we felt like we could relate to the song more and put our ideas into context with it. The song is upbeat and indie rock, but it has an underlying darkness to it making it a perfect song to create atmosphere with.
The song is heavily based on relationships, instantly giving us inspiration to present a small narrative of a relationship running alongside the live performance aspect of the video (which will be the main aspect), adding a touch of a narrative to break up the constant performance shots.
There has been a lot of inspiration for the video through other videos which we have watched that include live performance and/or lip syncing and a small narrative of relationships. For example;
As the first example, this video by One Direction clearly enhances the chosen lyrics because there is not only lip syncing (and so an element of live performance) but there are shots of girls or either the boys with girls, showing the relationships between them.
Post Break Up Sex by the indie band, The Vaccines is a little more relevant to our video because not only is it in the same genre but unlike the narrative to One Direction, the relationships displayed are a lot darker and are much more gritty. Also, the video has a foggy and slightly dreamlike and sinister feel to it, which is what we aim to achieve for our music video.
